CNC Horizontal Boring

The CNC Horizontal Boring section comprises 1 Union machine, 3 Giddings & Lewis machines.
An extensive range of tooling and ancillary equipment is available including, Multi Angled Milling Head, Facing & Contouring Heads, Out-Facing Bars and a Speed Multiplier to give a maximum spindle speed of 8,700 rpm. The machines cover an envelope of some 2.4 x 2.1 metres with a top table load of 10 tonnes. All are fitted with Renishaw Probing to enable accurate datuming of complex parts.

CNC Vertical Boring

The CNC Vertical Boring section consists of 2 machines with a table size up to 1.6 metres and a maximum swing of 2.0 metres. Maximum. height under the ram is 1.65 metres. Maximum table load is 5 tonnes.
 
These are fully CNC controlled to enable high metal removal rates and complex components to be machined. An extensive range of modern tooling is available for both machines to utilise the ample power available. The O-M machines are fitted with a 12 station toolchanger and the Giddings & Lewis with a 5 station turret.

Lathes
 
The turning section comprises of 5 CNC & 1 manual lathes. All machines are fully equipped with steadies & an extensive range of tooling.
Maximum CNC capacity is 710 mm swing by 4 metres turning length. Maximum workpiece weight is 5 tonnes. 
The two machines pictured above have large horse power spindle drives to enable very high metal removal rates to be achieved.

CNC Machining Centre
 
CTL have a number of Horizontal and Vertical Machining Centres, ranging from a small Maho universal, through to multi pallet machines up to the Giddings & Lewis G40 RTX Production Centre shown above. All machines have access to a large range of tooling and machines have Renishaw Probing. The 2 machines pictured above also have the facility to use Facing & Contouring heads from the toolchanger. The maximum workpiece size on the Multi-pallet machines is 1.5 x 1.2 x 1.0 metres with a maximum weight of approximately 3.0 tonnes.

Mill Turning
 
CTL has 2 Mazak E650 Integrex and 1 Mazak 50YB Integrex millturn machine tools with 5 axis capability 800mm chuck and complete with boring bar stocker to auto change large boring bars in full auto cycle. Boring bar range is 120mm diameter, 100mm diameter and 80mm diameter. Machine has 40 tool ATC and high pressure coolant.

Inspection
 
We have 2 CMM machines with the latest level of LK software including Interactive Graphics Package & DMIS Engine. Our LK. G80 Co-ordinate Measuring Machines, have a measuring capability of 3.0 x 1.5 x 1.75 metres and he G90 machine is a new high speed and high accuracy CMM.2.0 x 1.2 x 1.0 metres. We not only use these machines to inspect our own in-house components, but offer a full Sub-Contract Inspection service.
As many customers require inspection reports from an independent source, and as this machine is one of the largest in the area, capacity is in great demand.
The machines are Laser Calibrated every 6 months and calibration reports are available for inspection. Customised inspection reports can be tailored to suit individual customer requirements to help with the analysis of the data obtained.

Non Destructive Testing
 
We can provide MAGNETIC PARTICLE & DYE-PENETRANT testing facilities with staff qualified to ASNT level II and PCN level 2.
 
 
Assembly
 
Approximately 5,000 sq.ft. are available for assembly and test purposes, with cranage of up to 20 Tons. Assembly may include partial or complete machines or sub-assemblies.

Gun Drilling
 
On occasions CTL have been tasked to control gun drilled holes of 6mm diameter to a depth of 2425mm. To accomplish this challenge CTL developed a procedure using Ultra Sonics to pick up hole drift.
The first hole is drilled 70% of the required component length, then using ultrasonic examination techniques the drill drift is measured to correct any hole drift before machining from the other end of the component. Using this in house technology we can handle drill depths up to 4000mm deep.
 
Specialist Deep Hole Boring
 
A purpose built Dean Smith & Grace CNC machine for drilling shafts (hole size 1" to 6") on a 10ft. bed using either Ejector© or BTA© drilling systems. This CTL designed machine has out of the ordinary interfaces to coolant pumps, servos & spindle sensing through special software on the CNC control to give exceptional high accuracy fine control at high or low power. This enables us to drill materials from tool-steels to stainless steels. Larger or deeper holes possible with special tooling. A second portable system is available for use on any of the high power large horizontal boring machines.
 
SIFCO Selective Plating & Reclamation Service
 
Following repeated requests from our customers we have invested in a Sifco Selective Plating process. This gives the facility to repair & refurbish metallic materials by building up a coating of base or dissimilar materials including Chromium, Nickel, Cadmium, Copper & many more. The process is completely portable, not only do we offer this service in-house but repairs can be carried out on site. Our operators are fully trained in the repair procedure which is traceable to British standards.
