Coal Mining

Since the early 1980s CTL has been involved with British Coal (Shafton Barnsley) on the service and repair of coal cutting machinery, which included a heavy mig welding facility at CTL to repair and build up surfaces prior to machining.

The main interest for British Coal at that time was the large co-ordinate measuring machine facility offered by CTL to quickly establish any error or distortion/wear in any faulty equipment brought up from the coal face.

Once the repair procedure was established, we utilised our cnc machining & cmm inspection facility to return the component back to the OEM original design.  

       Although the coal mining industry has reduced significantly in the UK, CTL is still heavily involved with Joy Mining who  manufacture the new coal cutting technology to date for the Chinese and Australian Markets.
