CTL was approached by F. Bamford & Co Stockport for the machining of large propellers for the Greek Navy on their Fast Attack Frigates, (which are used to combat drug trafficking, shown above in banner & below) 

  • The propellers were over 1500m/m diameter. 
  • The challenge was to access both sides of the propeller blades and also finish machine the hub in the same set up. 
  • This was made difficult due to the steep pitch of the blades and their close proximity to each other. 

We accomplished this by designing bespoke work holding fixtures along with a detailed manufacturing plan, also using our in-house CAD/CAM system. CTL then utilised our large co-ordinate measuring machine to collect data to enable the best fit to the cast surfaces, which then aided the complex multi CNC machining programs.
