CNC Turning
At CTL the turning section comprises of 4 CNC & 1 manual lathes. All are fully equipped with steadies & an extensive range of tooling.
Maximum CNC capacity is 1120 mm swing by 4 metres turning length. Maximum workpiece weight is 5 tonnes.
Each CNC turning machine has large horse power spindle drives to enable very high metal removal rates to be achieved.

Heavy Duty CNC Lathe - Dainichi M112 x 4.0m
Our heavy-duty CNC lathe has a precision turning capacity of 710mm (27.9”) diameter over the saddle or 1120mm(44”) diameter over the slideways and has a bed length of 4.3m(14’). It is equipped with an exceptional deep boring capability and has three heavy-duty vibration damped boring bars. The first type is mounted from the tool post for shallow depths, and the two large types are mounted auxiliary cross slide bar holders that will take bars of 145mm & 200mm diameter with a boring depth of 1.9m(75”). A full range of steady rests that can accept a maximum diameter up to 32” supports this facility. The CNC lathe is serviced with a 5 tonne overhead crane and has it’s own full-length swarf conveyor and high-pressure coolant system. An auxiliary milling head enables detailed internal milling up to 24” deep into the bores to be carried out in the same set-up.
Heavy CNC Lathe - Poreba M930 TRP x 4.0m
CTL have a heavy-duty 40hp lathe which is capable of precision turning 650mm (25.59”) diameter over the saddle or 930mm(36.6”) diameter over the slideways and has a bed length of 4.0m (13’ 1”). It has two 400mm steady rests and deep hole boring capability with damped tuned bars. Complete with Fanuc OT control.
CNC Lathe - Heid S500 Slant Bed
A superbly robust and powerful Austrian machine, 58Kw (75 hp) with high accuracy scales. The machine is fitted with SMW hydraulic fully programmable self centering steady up to 300mm diameter and a large manual steady up to 550mm diameter. The centre and steadies are programmable. Machine is capable of precision turning 535mm diameter x 2250mm long with a max’ work piece weight of 5 tonnes. Complete with Siemens 820 control.
CNC Lathe - Yamazaki Powermaster 2000 Universal
Further CNC turning capacity is provided by the Yamazaki flat bed lathe with a 500mm hydraulic chuck and well equipped with steadies and boring bars. Steadies up to 24" diameter 2200mm bed length. 50hp. Fanuc 6Tb CNC control.
Specialist Deep Hole Boring
A purpose built Dean Smith & Grace CNC machine for drilling shafts (hole size 1" to 6") on a 10ft. bed using either Ejector© or BTA© drilling systems. This CTL designed machine has out of the ordinary interfaces to coolant pumps, servos & spindle sensing through special software on the CNC control to give exceptional high accuracy fine control at high or low power. This enables us to drill materials from tool-steels to stainless steels. Larger or deeper holes possible with special tooling. A second portable system is available for use on any of the high power large horizontal boring machines.
