Over an 18 month period, CTL was contracted by Giddings & Lewis Fraser in Knowsley to fully machine an initial batch of 250, followed by 1000, engine blocks for Ford Jaguar’s new XJ V8 and XK Series. Manufacturers of engine block transfer line systems for the Automobile industry, Giddings & Lewis hired CTL, who were able to guarantee the Quality Manufacturing process of the transfer line.

To ensure that the transfer line ran efficiently, each line (in this case there were 7) needed to have the machining capability and tooling process mapped out for accuracy and repeatability for each stage of manufacture. The process is called ‘Make Like Production,’ and CTL was responsible for proving the manufacturing and tooling methods, recording the accurate measurement data during each stage of manufacture which was used for analysis on tool life, and repeatability of each process. 

   Pictured above is a Puma Diesel Engine on final CMM Inspection, on completion these engines are assembled into;       

Ford Mondeo – Ford Transit – Jaguar X Type – LDV London Taxi TX1 & TX 11 - Citreon Jumper – Peugeot – Boxer – Fiat Ducato & Land Rover Defender.
